Ben Lujan, Sr. was elected to the New Mexico State House in 1974 and served from 1975 through 2012. During his terms, he served in all three leadership positions: Majority Whip, Majority Floor Leader, and as the second longest-serving Speaker of the House.
The Ben and Carmen (wife of Ben Sr.) Lujan awards are presented to Santa Fe County Democrats that exemplify democratic values and have made a difference in the community.
